"Some people grumble because roses have thorns. I am thankful that thorns have roses." - Alphonse Karr

I learned from a former boss, mentor, and one of my favorite people, you have to be intentional with gratitude. He starts and ends every conversation, engagement, presentation, and speech with two simple words-- Thank You.

I've watched him put smiles on people's faces, warm their hearts, and motivate them to accomplish incredible feats. In doing so, I realized the impact these two simple words have on the people we lead and I set out to become intentional with thank you, as well.

At first, it felt forced, unnatural, and inauthentic to apply gratitude in every scenario, even when delivering developmental feedback. I had to tap into my vulnerability and tear down my walls. That took self work but it was worth it.

Over time, I began to feel it, to mean it, and it became part of who I am.

It's never to late to lead with gratitude. You will change people's lives.
